Hydrosulfite is a popular reducing agent for vat dyes in pad steam dyeing. The agent is normally supplied in a concentrated powder form which is dangerous, unstable, and requires very careful handling during preparation. Bran and Luebbe has developed a semi-automated system that increases both the safety and reproducibility in diluting the powder. The powder is dispensed with a volumetric feed screw into the dilution tank. The rate of flow is set with a variable speed drive. Multi-headed metering pumps arenused to feed water and other chemicals into the tank.
