In Surat, where small process houses manufacture manmade textiles, conditions are ripe for improvement in quality standards, cost competitiveness, and pollution awareness; the industry is not yet ready to support batch-to-batch reproducibility of first-time-right dyeings. The industry must invest in automation, computerized process controls, high speed machines, and third generation chemicals to achieve better fastness standards and to reduce pollution loads.
