Limited success has been achieved in transferring laboratory formulated dyeing recipes to bulk dyeing operations. Bulk dyeing includes a range of factors not accounted for in the laboratory, such as different humidity conditions, extra post-dyeing treatments, and unpredictable random variation between laboratory and production processes. The first stage in achieving laboratory-to-bulk reproducibility is to establish consistent, reproducible laboratory formulations. More attention needs to be paid to laboratory fabric preparation, dyestock preparation, dyeing procedures, washing, finishing, and quality control.
