Developments in wet processing during the past twenty years are reviewed along with a discussion of future trends. This industry has moved from a labor intensive to capital intensive structure. The introduction and adoption of computer aided and electronic machinery have supported this move. Electronic control systems are now available for almost every phase of processing. Perhaps the most important development in dyeing has been the improvement in rotary screen printing. Package dyeing has also progressed, especially with the introduction of jet dyers and the advent of no add-on dyehouses. Continuous dyers, faced with import competition, are being forced to accept short-run work and to adapt their equipment to these requirements.
