The Application of Feedforward Profiles in the Control of Dyeing Machinery.

Researchers developed an algorithm based on dyebath conditions to predict dyeing results as a function of the dye exhaustion rate. Laboratory test conditions included up to 700 parts per million Procion Red HE-3B, dosing time of 80 minutes, pH 7, and a 50 liter per minute flow rate. Experiments used conventional time and temperature profiles to evaluate the reactive dyeing of cotton yarn packages. Some yarn to dye ratios required changes in temperature and pH in the dyebath to improve dyeing efficiency. Although results of dyeing cotton with reactive dyes were encouraging, further research is needed to improve dye exhaustion efficiency, especially effects on the environment and the consumption of energy, water, and chemicals. 15 refs.
