An experiment investigation enzymatic treatment as an alternative to carbonization dyed polyester/cotton fabrics having different blend proportions with disperse, reactive and disperse/reactive combination dyes, then treated the dyed fabrics with a cellulose enzyme to remove the reactive dyed cotton portion of the blends. The enzymatic action was similar for all blends, regardless of cotton content. Cotton-rich blends required stronger enzymatic treatment. A controlled dose of enzyme was suitable for correcting the shades of disperse/reactive dyed polyester cotton blends. Severe enzymatic treatment proved an effective and environmentally friendly alternative to carbonization. 7 refs.
