Causes of Optically Bleached Cotton Knit-wear Yellowing.

Researchers used infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy to study the effects of finishing, making-up, and storage on the yellowing of optically bleached cotton knit fabrics, and monitored the formation of yellow stains under the influence of such factors as light, weather, lubricating oil, perchloroethylene, and packaging materials. Laboratory tests revealed no yellow stains on the fabric, but a reduced degree of whiteness. Of all the factors, lubricating oil under light had the greatest effect on the changes in degree of whiteness. 9 refs.
