Decolorisation and Degradation Kinetics of Reactive Dye Wastewater by a UV/Ultrasonic/Peroxide System.

Researchers studied the use of ultraviolet (UV) and ultrasonic vibrations in the presence of hydrogen peroxide to decolorize wastewater from reactive dyeing. Kinetic studies determined the effects of pH and peroxide dosage. Degradation of the reactive dye followed a pseudo first order kinetic model at differing initial pH and peroxide dosages. High pH levels enhanced the dye degradation rate. The dye rate constant showed a linear correlation with pH. Ultrasound combined with UV irradiation improved the dye degradation rate and yielded soluble final degradation products that formed no sludge. 15 refs.
