The factors that affect shade control in continuous processing operations include type of substrate, fabric preparation, dye preparation, dye application, and finishing. Substrate parameters that affect shade include fiber content, yarn type, fabrics formation, chemical processing aids, and substrate age and storage conditions. Every blended yarn responds differently to dye. Ring spun, open end spun, and filament yarns all respond differently to dye. Important parameters in a commercial continuous dyeing machine include fabric tension, fabric absorbency, hardness of the dye pad rolls, pad volume, number and arrangement of immersion rolls, temperature, air flow, drying temperature, and cooling speed.
