Reports on use of river water by two dyeing companies Westdale Dyeing, Leicester, England, UK and Langholm Dyeing, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, UK. Westdale uses 115,000 ㎡ of water a year and by drawing from a tributary of the River Soar is making savings on the previous £100,000 water bill. The water is filtered, softened and treated with a biocide before being stored for use. In addition to financial benefits it means that the local water industry is not losing top quality drinking water to an industrial process. As Longholm have moved into non-wool dyeing they have had to install new nylon disk filters to remove microorganisms in the water from the River Esk as materials such as cotton and linen are more susceptible to them.
