Reviews coloration of nylon 6,6 and nylon 6. Improvement of colour uniformity using acid dyes is shown with use of cyclodextrin. With faster dyebath circulation low foaming leveling agents have become important. Results using ethoxylated hydroxysulphobetaines with acid dyes show a decrease in substantivity causing reduced dyeing rate promotion leveling. Nylon dyed with 1:2 metal complex dyes has improved washfastness when aftertreated with syntan, which is further enhanced by sequential application of a cationic compound. New metal complex dyes containing the 5-methyl substituted group of o,o'dihydroxyazo dyes have been shown to have excellent exhaustion on nylon, and fastness. Good results from reactive dyes containing carboxylic acid groups are reported.
