The color appearance of textile fibers is usually modeled via the Kubelka-Munk function, which has shortcomings, some of them being addressed by empirical corrections. Work has been undertaken to produce a more representative model for textile fabrics that would have adequate flexibility to changing conditions such as microfibers, blends, and wet fabrics. The application of a geometric model in the prediction of color appearance of dry fabrics from their measurement in a wet state was analyzed. This approach can be applied to online color measurement. The aim was to evaluate unacceptable changes in the substrate color at the earliest stage possible so that effective corrections could be applied before the drying of the materials. Successful modeling will result in a better right-first time performance.
