Use of dyes as fine chemicals in textile fibre application

The Indian dye industry constitutes the backbone of the country's textile industry and provides important links to many consuming industries contributing to the national economy. The industry is not only self-sufficient in providing essential dyestuffs for the user industries in India, including non-textiles, but it has also made a rapid progression into the international markets. While the present demand pattern for dyes is dictated by the fact that growth in demand for synthetic fibres, particularly polyester, will alter the domestic pattern for dyes in the future. The article documents basic information of many recognized dyes, discussing the classification of fibres and the subsequent choice of appropriate dyestuff.
