Biological process for decomposing effluent dyestuffs

Dye residues in textile finishing industry effluent are not adequately removed by standard biological sewage treatment plants. The authors report the development of a multi-stage process, the most innovative aspect being the introduction of an acidogenic-anaerobic preliminary stage. Different effluents have been successfully clarified on a pilot scale with the aid of the process described.
