An overview of the matrix algebra application method for obtaining dye recipes and batch corrections via computer software based iteration during Procion M dyeing of unmercerized cotton addresses calculation of tristimulus values from reflectance values, the Kubelka Munk relationship, calculating reflectance backward from K/S values at any wavelength, normalized K/S values, a matrix model for computing correction concentrations at each iteration, the floating alpha method for precise adjustment of recipe predictions, and calculating XYZ and DE values for predicted concentrations. Dyes used for the case study included Procion Yellow M3, Procion Brilliant Red MrB, and Procion Blue M4GD. 7 refs.
