Finishing elastane fabrics requires fabrics to be in rolled form due to the high shrinkage rate of batched fabrics, which can result in defects. Storage of unrelaxed fabrics in tight rolls can result in moire effects. Storage in humid atmospheres can change fabric width and density. During relaxation on a steam table, steam quantity and fabric speed control elaticity and fabric density. Width and overfeed adjustments during relaxation on tentering machines control elasticity. For relaxation in hot water in a tensionless washing machine, optimal washing and shrinkage occur at 80-90 degrees centigrade. Thermofixation at 185-195 degrees centigrade for 25-60 seconds controls fabric shrinkage during drycleaning. Dyeing parameters vary for polyester/elastane, polyester/wool/elastane, viscose/elastane, and acetate/elastane blend fabrics. 1 ref.
