Researchers replaced conventional rinsing with an enzymatic treatment using catalases to remove residual hydrogen peroxide from bleached fabrics and evaluated the treated bleaching liquor for use in dyeing. Ultraviolet spectrophotometry measured enzyme activity after decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. A reflectance measuring instrument using CIELab color differences determined the color differences of the dyed fabrics. The enzymatic treatment eliminated hydrogen peroxide but resulted in unacceptable color changes in the dyed fabrics. Varying such dyeing parameters as dye, salt, alklai, and enzyme concentrations minimized the color differences. 16 refs.
