An overview of cotton fabric wet processing problems addresses bleaching and seed marks in cotton fabrics, fabric washing and pH correction before dyeing, variations in fabric whiteness, and laboratory testing and problem prevention. Low pH and rapid peroxide decomposition bleaching conditions leave seed marks that show up as black or brown pinhead spots on cotton fabrics. Washing and pH correction with acetic acid after bleaching and before dyeing ensure even dyeing. Factors that measure cotton fabric quality during and after wet processing are weight loss, ash content, was content, absorbency, whiteness percentage and retention, seed coats, pH, and cuprammonium fluidity.
