Resist printing prints a design on a fabric that resists subsequent dyed or overprinted ground padding or blotch printing and uses pigment printing for the illuminating colors. Resist printed patterns are sharper than discharge printed patterns. Different methods of reactive dye and pigment dye fixation allow print cross cutting. Steaming fixes the pigment dye and allows print cross cutting. Steaming fixes the pigment dye and allows the ground to be printed in the same print run. Two-run resist printing prints the resist pattern and then pads the fabric with the reactive dye in a two bowl padding machine followed by hot flue drying. Moist steam neutral ageing fixes the reactive dyes. Resist printing costs less than discharge printing and allows the illuminating colors to be checked during the print run.
