The objective of this study was to investigate whether a combination of borax and PVA could be used as an antimigrant for soluble dyes, an alternative to using xanthan gum. This cost-effective method also has potential to provide good dye fixation properties. Two sets of pad baths were used, each consisting of varying concentrations of borax and PVA. The samples were impregnated with the first set of pad bath with a pick-up of 65% and left overnight to dry. The borax treated samples were then passed through the second set of baths that consisted of dye, wetting agent and PVA, and again left to dry. AATCC Test Method 140-1996 was used to measure the percentage of migration. Results of the experiment showed that as the concentration of substances are increased; the percent migration is decreased significantly. The use of borates and polyvinyl alcohols may lead to migration control with different calsses of fibres and dyes.
