Long term storage of woven or knit elastane fabrics can result in degradation of silicone oils and auxiliaries, yellowing, and loss of elasticity. Cold setting can result in permanent crease marks. Circular knit fabrics with a high content of elastane fibers should be cut on the knitting machine and rolled in open width form. Scouring on a soft flow jet before heat setting reduces staining due to lubricants and minimizes fumes while inducing the appropriate relaxation. Fabrics with more than 25 percent elastane content should be dyed on beam dyeing machines because high temperature and mechanical stress during dyeing can reduce elasticity. Fabrics containing 10-25 percent elastane fiber should be dyed using soft flow jets. An overview of elastane dyeing addresses nylon/elastane, polyester/elastane, and cellulose/elastane blend fabrics.
