A study dyed wool fibers with C.I. Mordant Blue 13, C.I. Mordant Green 17, and C.I. Mordant Orange 37 1:2 iron complexed acid dyes via conventional and ultrasonic dyeing methods. Ultrasonic methods improved dye exhaustion in the absence of salt, shortened dyeing time, and lowered dyeing temperature. Kinetic analysis discovered an exothermic character in the ultrasonic dyeing method. Ultrasonic waves broke up the dye micelles and high molecular weight aggregates into uniform dispersions in the dyebath, which increased dye penetration. Ultrasonic dyeing increased entropy compared with conventional dyeing. 15 refs.
