Influence of Fibre Materials on the Course of Occurrence of Fluorescence

An overview of fluorescence addressed the spectral remission curves of nylon, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polyacrylonitrile fabrics dyed by fluorescent disperse dyes; fluorescent brightened PET fabrics; and fabrics printed with fluorescent brighteners and fluorescent pigments. The level of fluorescence caused by fluorescent disperse dyes depended on the dye chemical structure and fiber material. Fluorescence caused by brighteners and disperse dyes self extinguished after reaching a critical concentration. Fluorescence in fabrics printed with fluorescent pigments did not self extinguish, possibly because the pigments maintained the monomolecular dispersion of the fluorescent dye in the resin. 9 refs.
