Ultrasonic Dyeing of Cotton with Reactive Dyes.

An ultrasonic method dyed plain cotton fabric with 92 ends and 54 picks using C.I. Reactive Red 11, C.I. Reactive Blue 4, and C.I. Reactive Blue 21 dyes at various temperatures. K/S values at different shade depths during room temperature dyeing were higher for ultrasonic dyeing than for conventional dyeing. Ultrasonic dyeing increased C.I. Reactive Blue 4 dye uptake 39-88 percent over conventional dyeing. Ultrasonic dyeing increased dye uptake of C.I. Reactive 21 by 7-50 percent and increased dyed uptake of C.I. Reactive Red 11 by 40-80 percent. As dyeing temperature increased, the increase in dye uptake for ultrasonic dyeing over conventional dyeing decreased. Fastness properties were good for ultrasonic dyed cotton fabrics. 9 refs.
