An overview of factors that affect textile dyeing introduces the concept of color, including excitation of electrons, chromophores, auxochromic groups, bathochromic and hypsochromic shifts, and requirements of dye molecules; dyeing processes, including factors that influence dyeing and process rationalization and standardization; pretreatments; aftertreatments; and external factors. Factors that influence dyeing include those related to raw materials, including water quality, substrates, dyes, and dyeing assistants; those related to processing, including substrate preparation, substrate weight, weighing of dyes and chemicals, dispensing methods, moisture content of substrate, standardization of dyes, moisture content of dyes, liquor ratio, dyebath pH, time and temperature profile and machine flow and reversal sequence; and those related to dyeing method, including conditions required for exhaust dyeing, pad dyeing, and thermal dyeing.
