Washfastness of Reactive Dyes: Current Tests and Theory for Peroxide Attack.

Discrepancies in the results from washfastness tests of reactive dyes suggest the existence of a cumulative mechanism in repeated washings that is different from that of th BS 1006 UK-TO single simulation test. Experiments with seven azo dyes suggested that declines in the washfastness of dyed samples subjected to the single simulation tests were attributable to chromophore attack. Azo dyed samples subjected to repeated washings, however, exhibited a cumulative effect resulting form the reaction between the peroxide anion and the reactive group. 11 refs.
