Dye Removal from Textile Dye Wastewater Using Recycled Alum Sludge.

Researchers evaluated the effectiveness of coagulation with recycled alum sludge in removing hydrophobic and hydrophilic dyes from textile wastewater. The recycled alum sludge removed hydrophobic dye from the effluent and reduced the required fresh alum dosage by approximately 30 percent. A small amount of fresh alum added to the system controlled back diffusion of dye from the recycled sludge. Recycled alum sludge was not effective for removing hydrophilic dyes due to dye high solubility properties tha led to uncontrollable back diffusion of residual dye. 14 refs.
