Researchers evaluated the effects of substrate concentration; medium composition; and such process parameters as pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen on the ability of Pseudomonas luteola to decolor azo dye wastewater. High performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry analyzed the metabolites resulting from the bacterial decoloration. Dissolved oxgen and glucese concentrations retarded decoloration. Optimal decoloration occurred at 37 degrees centigrade and pH 7-9 Yeast extract and tryptone enhanced decoloration. The Michaelis-Menten model described the dependence of the decoloration rate on substrate concentration. 28 refs.
