Researchers developed a one bath fibrillation, dyeing, and enzyme treatment for lyocell fabrics that reduces processing time by approximately 40 percent and consumes less water than conventional methods. A 6 hour pilot scale process dyed lyocell fabrics with reactive dyes based on the 3-carboxypyrimidino-1,3,5-triazine reactive group and eliminated the alkaline dye fixation step. Commercial scale trials with an alternative one bath process that incorporated the enzyme step within the dyeing cycle took 8-9 hours and generated a peach skin effect. The inclusion of the enzyme within an alkaline clearable disperse dye cycle made the process suitable for processing polyester/lyocell blend fabrics. 12 refs.
