An experiment into the effects of treatment conditions of polyester fabric on the extracted oligomers used gel permeation chromatography to determine the composition of oligomers extracted with dichloromethane solvent. Alkaline pretreatment prior to acid or alkaline dyeing reduced the quantity of extracted oligomers and flexural rigidity. The oligomeric extracts consisted primarily of cyclic trimers. The effect of treatment conditions on breaking stress and elongation was slight. 20 refs.
