Dyebath reuse in polyester fiber dyeing was explored. Exhausted hot dyebaths were examined to determine the concentration of residual colorants, replenished, and reused to dye more batches. The residual dye concentration was determined using UV-visible spectrophotometry and HPTLC (high performance thin layer chromatography). The color reproducibility, uniformity, and fastness properties to light, washing, dry and wet crocking, sublimation, and perspiration were found comparable to those achieved in conventional dyeing. The results indicated a 5-7% saving on dye and a 65-75% saving on other textile auxilliaries by reuse of reconstituted dyebaths along with a substantial decrease in discharge of pollutants.
