Reactive dyes cause more effluent problems than other dye classes due to their low fixation on cotton and extensive use. An experiment reused recycled reactive dyebaths decolored via ozonation for bleaching, whitening , and dyeing cotton and polyester fabrics. Reuse required small modifications to conventional processes for dyeing cotton with reactive dyes. The whiteness index of bleached and whitened cotton was comparable with that of fabrics finished with new baths. The color difference between polyester dyed with disperse dyes using liquor from a spent reactive dyebath and polyester dyed in a new bath was minimal. 27 refs.
