most upholstery fabrics are finished with fluorocarbons applied from aqueous baths; therefore, this investigation centered on the simultaneous application of boric acid and fluorocarbon. data from the aqueous application of boric acid to upholstery fabrics are also given. utilization of current finishing equipment was considered variables studied were: solution concentration, composition, and temperature; agent distribution in the dried and cured fabrics; and textile properties (including smolder resistance, and oil and water repellency). both laboratory and pilot-plant experiments were carried out. excellent smolder resistance and water and oil repellency were obtained. 21 refs
