Issues relating to wrinkle resistant apparel manufactured from cellulosic fabrics include fabric properties, apparel components, processing, pressing, and curing. The main goals of wrinkle resistant finishing are crease retention, smoothness, tensile strength, tear strength, and flex abrasion. Apparel fabrics must meet certain minimum tensile and strength specifications to be suitable for wrinkle resistant finishing. All components used in apparel manufacture, including interlinings, linings, pockets, and sewing thread, must be compatible with the wrinkle resistant process. Dipping and extraction and metered addition are the major methods of applying wrinkle resistant resins to fabrics. During drying, dryer outlet temperatures should be 75 degrees centigrade. Curing at 155 degrees centigrade for 15 minutes yields good wrinkle resistant apparel, although different fabric weights and moisture contents can require adjustment of curing times.
