An inexpensive way of treating cotton textiles with a durable antimicrobial compound that kills viruses and pathogenic and odor-causing bacteria is given. potential applications for the treatment include hospital bedding, clothing for healthcare workers and incontinence garments. The treatment if grafted onto the cotton in a similar way to that of permanent press finishing, and contains chlorine which is effective against bacteria, viruses, yeast and fungi. The treated fabrics can be recharged after use by rinsing in a dilute mixture of bleach and water.
