A study finished 65/35 polyester/cotton blend fabrics with bis(tri-n-butylin)oxide and 5-chloro-2(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) phenol, polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride (PHMB), and 3-trimethoxysilylpropyldimethyloctadecyl ammonium chloride antimicrobial finishes and compared their resistance to wear and laundering. PHMB was effective for the antimicrobial treatment of cotton terry fabric and retained its antimicrobial activity on apparel and bedding fabrics after 50 launderings. 3-Trimethoxysilylpropyldimethyloctadecyl ammonium chloride was the least durable of the finishes. 9 refs.
