Ciba Specialty Chemicals' antimicrobial finishing system combines fixation and controlled release functions to insert antimicrobial agents into microcapsules that regulate their release in aqueous media. Multifunctional reactive groups capable of forming covalent bonds on cotton fiber modify the microcapsules. The Ciba Tinosan CEL system increases the washfastness of antimicrobial finishes and extends antimicrobial durability to over 100 launderings. The pad dry dure method at pH 6-7 attaches Tinosan CEL to cotton fibers and combines Tinosan CEL with Ciba Knittex FEL wrinkle resistant finish. Pad batch or pad steam processes apply Tinosan CEL with dyes.
