Papers at Filtech Europe 1993, an international conference and exhibition on technical filtration held in Germany, addressed such topics as the structure of dust filter cakes in needle felts; trends in dust removal by consolidated filter materials; the performance of air filtration media for automotive engines; and the design of filter materials for solid/liquid separation processes. A review of the exhibition focused on demonstrations by Osmonics, Reemay, 3M, and Sandler. An important trend was the use of sintered ceramic nonwovens in high temperature filtration because of their superior air permeability. Microfiber nonwovens with improved retention properties for ultrafine particles proved to be gaining market share.
