Biodegradable Milk Filters About to Reach Market Maturity.

Freudenberg's biodegradable, spun bonded polyester nonwoven for milk filtration in milking machines is made of wood pulp and decomposes when exposed to heat and moisture in compost. An enzyme generated by soil microorganisms initiates the decomposition. The decomposition produces only environmentally compatible byproducts. Its filtration performance is comparable with that of nonbiodegradable filters. The Institute for Animal Keeping and Breeding at the University of Hohenheim is currently field testing this product.
