Danaklon, one of the largest producers of specialty polypropylene fibers for nonwoven fabrics, plans to enlarge the capacity of its Varde plant by the addition of a long spin line formerly used by Bottrop. Danaklon purchased the Bottrop operation, with a polyolefin capacity of 24,000 metric tons per year, in April 1994. Rather than leaving the operation in Germany, Danaklon executive Erik Grann Gammelgaard explained that the long spin line would undergo extensive upgrading before resuming production in Denmark. After coming online, the addition would boost the polyolefin capacity of the Varde plant to 68,000 metric tons per year.
