There is a renewed interest in the utilization of kenaf as an agricultural commodity. Projects have been initiated to find new value-added uses for both the fiber and core materiags of the kenaf plant. This study aims to incorporate kenaf fiber into nonwoven constructions. The reseach is designed to evaluate various methods of mechanical processing to obtain fibers acceptable for processing into nonwoven products. Cotton ginning equipment and a Rando cleaner are effective in reducing core material to ＜0.2％ in two sources of kenaf.
