Researchers studied the absorbent behavior of nonwoven fabrics containing high and low micronaire cotton fibers and conventional and modified rayon fibers. Sample webs comprised each of these fibers as well as their blends, which were produced by carding and needling. A demand wettability device operating under two different environmental pressures performed absorbency measurements with both water and saline. The parameters evaluated were the absorbent capacity and the rate of absorbency. Classical theories, modified to apply to the thin, porous sample webs used in the study, were used to model the data. 8 refs.
