Manfacturers currently use environmental compatibility as a standard for judging the practicality of textile laminating using hot melt adhesives in the form of powder. Manufacturers require production speed and reliability coupled with flexibility and the ability to meet maximum environmental standards. A simple table compares different laminating methods using hot melts, including powder dot coating, paste dot coating, screen printing, roller printing, fusing, spraying, and porous coating. Comparisons between the laminating methods include the form of adhesive used, particle size requirements, adhesive type, whether a fusing unit and/or infrared heating source is necessary, the minimum weight application, themaximum speed, whether variation of amount applied during production occurs, whether contact with the substrate occurs, whether manufacturers must make width adjustmens during production, and energy costs incurred by the process.
