The resistance to fluid passage of a porous barrier, such as a fibrous sheet, can be a critical performance property for many end use applications. In addition, measurement of the resistance at multiple locations can serve as a quality control monitor for evaluating product uniformity. Because permeability is not a constant property, any evaluation carried out at only a single driving pressure can produce misleading comparisons. Conventional test instruments for measuring air or liquid forced flow through porous sheets do not generally have the potential for covering a wide range of flow rates or applied pressures. The TRI/ART air flow resistance tester can supply flow rate versus applied pressure data covering a wide range, usually in less than 1 minute, without any adjustments or changes in specimen mounting.
