Nonwoven products in the sanitary and absorbent field, in addition to being formed from carded staple fibers with binders, are also formed as staple fibers without binders, laminates, extruded sheets, spun bonded, spun laced, melt blown, thermal bonded, and spertured fabrics. Disposable coverstock will continue to be the largest single end use for light weight nonwoven fabrics, not only for baby diapers, sanitary napkins, and hospital underpads, but for the more recently developing adult incontinence products. The sanitary napkin and underpad market is relatively flat, wereas baby diaper sales increase 2-3 percent each year. The adult incontinence pad market will be three to four times as large as the baby diaper market, and the manufacturers of these products, which consume large volumes of nonwoven coverstock, are entering an entirely new phases of market potential in the nonwoven goods industry.
