An historical overview of stitchbonding technology illustrates the application of the process worldwide since its beginnings in 1949. In 1949, stitchbonding offered major cost advantages in spun yarn manufacturing. Today, a wide variety of nonwoven products can be developed on stitchbonding machines. Stitchbonding machines can produce from 1-7 meters per minute in available operating widths on 60-170 inches, with 50-90 percent efficiency depending of the fabric construction, material base weight, and the initial type and quality of the fabric.
