Recent developments in techical nonwovens

This is a review of new polymers, new fibres, new fabrics and new machinery developed for the nonwovens industry. New polymers include metallocene polypropylene and a fully degradable polylactide from Fiberweb. Fibre developments include superabsorbent fibres, Courtaulds Lyocell, antimicrobial acrylic, PVA fibres and thermal bonding fibres. Uses have been found in filtration, acoustic insulation and protective clothing, and stretch nonwovens developed. The latest spunbonding and hydroentanglement machinery and spinnerets are reviewed.
