Research on the measurement of fiber orientation in nonwoven fabrics developed simulation models. Fiber orientation in nonwoven fabrics is an important characteristic because of its direct influence on fabric properties. In the development of simulation models, the research examined the applicability of image analysis algorithms in the characterization of fiber orientation. Preliminary research developed a simulation model to produce images in order to test a range of algorithms. Further research plans to develop a direct tracking method and Fourier and flow field analyses for the characterization of fiber orientation. 21 refs.
