The effect of fluorochemical finishes on the wettability of three nonwoven fabrics for protective garments is examined. Capillary flow rates (CFR) are estimated from the results of an analysis of the water contact angle in combination with the fabric pore radius. Expected CFRs are then compared with experimental results obtained from demand wettability and static sorption tests. Estimated CFRs are proportional to experimental water uptake values. Water repellency is influenced more by the fabric construction than by the water repellency finish.
