The Geman nonwovens manufacturer Christian H. Sandler produces high-bulk thermobonded nonwovens for upholstered funiture, leisure furniture and speciality technical nonwovens. Their new plant is accredited to ISO 9001 and employs state-of-the-art automation technologies and a complex computer control system. In the thermofusion process different fibre components are homogeneously blended together. Heat melts the fusible fibres in the mixture and bonds the loosely formed fibrous web into a highbulk nonwoven fabric. The advantages of this process associated with the product and the environment are discussed. The handle is soft and of a textile nature. No bonding agent or evaporation of water is required and consequently exhaust air emission problems and pollutant effluents are eliminated.
